Last of the summer sun.

Day 24

Happiness is a warm chew toy - chew chew, drool drool.

Day 23

O dear. A little behind here. So, I'll put three up today, if I can. Beast is still swimming, even at the end of October. I guess the water's warmer than the air now.

Day 20

The Beast protests the lack of walk by destroying his blanket. It's cold and rainy and miserable out there. He can run around on his own on the property, so he can do without an accompanied walk today. no matter what he thinks...

Day 19

An old pic of the Beast. In January he lolloped into some broken glass in the woods by us. Cut an artery. Much, much blood. Everywhere. So, he was Gimp Beast for a while. It seems stunningly cruel to take animals with exquisitely sensitive hearing and put a giant amplifier on their heads. He survived, but he was miserable for a few weeks.

Day 0

I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille...

In the beginning...

The beast was born in a small village in Botswana, one of a litter from a malnourished Tswana Brown bitch, who had the usual painted colouring of varying splodges of black, tan and white. He was bought by a friend for P10 and given to me. He was the only one of his litter to survive parvovirus.

When we returned to Canada, there was no question of the Beast staying in Botswana. So, we crated him up, and brought him to land of snow. Little did we know. Two days after arriving in Canada, a snowstorm hit that dumped over 3 feet of snow in under two days. The Beast was very confused.

Over two years later, he has adjusted to the climate well. Sometimes I look at him, and think - how many other African village dogs are as lucky as you?
